For the most part the language gets trimmed constantly in order to make it more accessible, look at text-speak, leet-speak or business-speak, and as a result the very nature of language changes. People change in turn. Ten years ago no-one would even think about publishing stories of under 150 words, now it has become almost common place due to the medium and the new language. That being said I prefer a few of the American spellings, if not the pronounciations. For example it's a little more sensible spelling it "thru" than "through" (pronounced thrughtff). Maybe America just has more dyslexics so they made their language easier. The direction that language has been heading over the last few decades is very similar to Orwell’s depiction in 1984. Comment on The original idea by JamieMarriage http://nataliejepotts.com/blog/2012/01/29/the-original-idea-2/comment-page-1/#comment-3239 JamieMarriage Mon, 30 Jan 2012 00:46:32 +0000 http://nataliejepotts.com/blog/?p=882#comment-3239 I've seen the Phantom of the Opera story written in both the Discworld and the Warhammer universes and strangely both worked quite well. It illustrated well that storytelling trumps originality most of the time. I'd rather a well told re-telling than a poorly written original idea. Comment on Will they steal my idea? by E. Markham http://nataliejepotts.com/blog/2012/01/22/will-they-steal-my-idea/comment-page-1/#comment-3220 E. Maybe it comes under the heading of 'there's nothing new in the world' but as someone who reads submissions for magazines, I can tell you that there are remarkable similarities between stories at times. Great post in general! I just had someone ask me exactly this question. :)

But this week I only really managed to make time for my 100 word writing sessions (no proper hours put in at the keyboard) and I still managed to get over 1,500 words done just with that. Maybe I should try it. I'm not making 500 a day - I've decided I can only do one thing an evening, so it's either write (500w), blog, read blogs and 'connect' via social media, or something else. But maybe I can fit in 100 on the days I do somehting other than write. Like tonight :-) fantastic! Maybe I should try it. And guess what, week two and I'm still managing it every day! I think I owe you a big thank youfor suggesting the 100 words a day in the first place. Hope you are getting through the novel, I would love to read the prequel at the end of the year!
